There are 3 levels of listing: Grade I, II* & II. The majority of buildings which are of special interest are Grade II. A much smaller number of particularly important buildings are listed as Grade II*. Buildings of exceptional interest (approx 2% of the total number of listed buildings) are Grade I.
Ancient monuments and archaeological remains of national importance are protected by law. Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service is responsible for compiling a schedule (list) of these ancient monuments, some of which can be found in churches and churchyards. Examples can include churchyard crosses and the archaeological remains of previous churches or buildings on the site.

Bwlch is on the A40 some 13 km south east of Brecon and 19 km north west of Abergavenny. Bwlch is on a hill which marks (at this point) the watershed between the Usk and Wye river basins. This may seem odd as the A40 largely follows the course of the River Usk between Brecon and Abergavenny but here the Usk flows to the south of the hill. The viilage enjoys excellent views in all directions particularly to the Brecon Beacons, to the Black Mountains and down stream (River Wye catchment) towards Llangorse Lake.

Bwlch was built as a Mission Church from its then parish Church at Cathedine (that church is now redundant and the the area is in a United Benefice). The church was built in 1897.

The church has a small nave with a wide chancel, the former belfry was removed about 2010. It was constructed in local stone with random rubble coursing exposed internally with lime render externally, (the former belfry was timber boarded), green Welsh slate roof (common in the Brecon area) with red clay crested ridge tiles

A nave and chancel as one with no chancel arch. There is a simple altar table, a stone pulpit, an oak kneeling rail supported on ornate wrought iron posts and the chief feature of the chapel is thestained glass by Celtic Studios. There were two bells of c 1898
