There are 3 levels of listing: Grade I, II* & II. The majority of buildings which are of special interest are Grade II. A much smaller number of particularly important buildings are listed as Grade II*. Buildings of exceptional interest (approx 2% of the total number of listed buildings) are Grade I.
Ancient monuments and archaeological remains of national importance are protected by law. Llantwit Fardre is 18km north west of Cardiff via the A470 and A473 and 4km east of Llantrisant also along the A473. The church is on the north west edge of Church Village a5t the corner of St Illtyd Road and Church Road.

A description of the history and archaeology of the church and its site.
The nave and chancel date from c1525 with the west tower which has datestone with the inscription “This steeple was made AM/DOM 1636 / Thomas Robt/(Builder?)”. In 1854 restoration of the church cost £560 and then in 1894 the church was renovated and memorial windows erected at a cost of £300. In 1972-4 the church was drastically remodelled to the south.

A description of the exterior of the church and the main features of the churchyard.
Initially a nave, lower chancel and tower built with brown rubble which on the tower has since been rendered and with slate roofs. The tower has a saddle-back roof and a round headed west doorway. Thew south side of the chancel and nave was extended outwards in matching materials but with a pitched roof next to the nave and a flat one by the chancel.

The nave has a segmented plaster ceiling while the chancel roof is of 2 arch-braced trusses. The interior is heavily rendered giving it a cave like appearance.
