Summary Description

A new quay was constructed here before 1700 and a new stone quay was built as a result of the New Quay Harbour Act of 1835. The town was a centre for ship building, 200 vessels being built up to to1882, all under 300 tons. Despite no railway coming to the town development has centred on the tourist trade.
