Summary Description

Narberth is one of the original Pembrokeshire boroughs and is mention (as Arberth) in the Dream of Pwyll Lord of Dyved, in the first branch of the Mabinogion. It was one of the places where the king of Dyfed held court. In 1652 Captain Richard Castle developed a market here which was seen to be in competition with Tenby Market, Narberth market was stopped in 1676 and then re-established in 1866. With the coming of the turnpikes the town was on the road from Carmarthen to Haverfordwest. In more modern town enjoys a station on the railway from Whitland to Pembroke Dock.
