There are 3 levels of listing: Grade I, II* & II. The majority of buildings which are of special interest are Grade II. A much smaller number of particularly important buildings are listed as Grade II*. Buildings of exceptional interest (approx 2% of the total number of listed buildings) are Grade I.

Built from rubble Ordovician sandstone from the Forge Quarry in irregular courses (faults in the stone had been filled with quartz crystals and even a piece of sphalerite (zinc sulphide) with Bath stone ashlar dressings beneath a slate roof with copped gables – a complex church of nave, chancel with a tower above at the west end and a polygonal east end, a north transept and a parallel roofed side aisle. There is a 5-bay arcade of double-chamfered pointed arches on round piers which has been screened off as a school room by screens designed by Roger Clive Powell with round panels of coloured glass by Gaslight of Swansea (Suzanne Hill and Elizabeth Edmundson). The chancel arch matches as does the sanctuary arch above the 5-sided apse. The roofs have arch-braced collar trusses with cusping above the collars. The pews date from 1869 as does the font designed by Penson. The altar rails were designed by E V Collier in 1913 and his work us also the oak reredos of 1914. The oak pulpit is by Wippell & Co in 1928. The organ in the south aisle is by Hunter and Son 1907 while that in the organ chamber is by Gray and Davidson 1873. There are painted decorations of 1900. in the chancel of British saints and martyrs.
