There are 3 levels of listing: Grade I, II* & II. The majority of buildings which are of special interest are Grade II. A much smaller number of particularly important buildings are listed as Grade II*. Buildings of exceptional interest (approx 2% of the total number of listed buildings) are Grade I.
Ancient monuments and archaeological remains of national importance are protected by law. Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service is responsible for compiling a schedule (list) of these ancient monuments, some of which can be found in churches and churchyards. To the west of the porch is a standing stone 1.5m tall, of schist, which bears the inscription in Latin ‘Here is the tomb of Wleder mother of Odeleu who first built this church at the time of Owain’, Owain probably being Owain Gwynedd (1137 – 70) a leading (Welsh Prince) who respected by his peers established a reputation for fearlessness in war, wisdom in peace, ruthlessness in politics. The church contains medieval masonry but is essentially a Victorian Church which was restored three times in Queen Victoria’s reign, 1845, 1866 and then under the direction of Henry Kennedy in 1886 on plans drawn up by him two years earlier. This work included new seats, the removal of the west gallery and the building of the belfry and north porch. The roof may possibly have been renewed at this time.

A small Gothic style church of continuous nave and chancel with a north vestry west porch and belfry at the west end. It was built with coursed rubble masonry with large stones as quoins and sandstone dressings. The porch has snecked rubble masonry. The slate roof has decorative ridge tiles and stone copings. The single belfry on the west end gable has a decorative cross on the top.

The roof is of seven- bays of exposed timbers and diagonally set tongue and groove panelling between. There are arch-braced collared trusses with tie beams on which a painted verse has been written. There is a single step up into the sanctuary which has a moulded rail on twisted stanchions with floriate brackets. At the west end of the church is the fond which has an octagonal bowl on a shaped plinth and square base, it maybe medieval but recut in C19. There are two stained glass windows: ‘Christ in Majesty with St Michael and Angels’, 1958 by Joan Howson, this piece is bold and colourful; ‘The Arrival of St Tecwyn’ 1988, Polly Hope. The bell dates from 1683 cast by ‘?RA’.
