Summary Description

Betws-y-Coed could perhaps be described at the capital of Snowdonia, set on the former Telford coach road – the A5 just east of the Waterloo Bridge. The arch of the bridge was built in 1815 and the bridge was completed the following year – a magnificent span of the river Conwy. The settlement is on the Conwy Valley railway line and in Victorian times a haunt of those in search of the picturesque – the Swallow falls. It is a tourist honey pot in its own right with the church making a significant feature on the townscape. Reference Buildings of Wales –Gwynedd 2009 Cadw Listing Notice. The Encyclopaedia of Wales
