There are 3 levels of listing: Grade I, II* & II. The majority of buildings which are of special interest are Grade II. A much smaller number of particularly important buildings are listed as Grade II*. Buildings of exceptional interest (approx 2% of the total number of listed buildings) are Grade I.
Ancient monuments and archaeological remains of national importance are protected by law. Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service is responsible for compiling a schedule (list) of these ancient monuments, some of which can be found in churches and churchyards. This is a medieval church, the nave being C12 but constructed with older stones, the chancel was added in c13 and a porch was added in C16. Henry Kennedy thoroughly rebuilt the church in 1852 and added the cross gable bellcote.

The C13 chancel arch is the high point of this church. Sir J E Lloyd associated it with Einion ap Gwalchmai ‘a church builder on an ample scale. (Sir J E Lloyd was a historian of note enjoying a eulogy by Saunders Lewis ‘the lamp lighter of lost centuries.) The elaboration is such that a pier is placed against the responds with a further order on the east side. The shafts are in triplets on angles and similar plain rolls above the capitals. The arch moulding has a two-centre profile with simpler but bolder rolls. The Romanesque font is circular and the decoration on its drum is divided into six panels with sub-arches and four panels with plaits and two with knots. The stained glass: ‘Two figures’, c1993. The bell is C16 but nothing is known about where it was cast.
